Our Norway is different.
If you are looking for activities, safaris (what a terrible word to use up here in the north), experiences, guides, tours and instagram keywords, you landed on the wrong site. Because our mission is to live Norway, its light, its mountains, its wildlife and its waters, as they have been always lived: from home. Yes, like most Norwegians we sail the worst seas for its wildlife, we hike up and ski down all the mountains we can, but always starting, and coming back to, a warm fireplace. A home where you can see nature and time passing by. Nordlight is your home in Norway, and all you expect from this amazing country is right out of our windows: ocean, whales, auroras, raindeer, mountains and indigo blue.
This page will film you through our main seasons and special events. Enjoy the ride!
The sun will be very active for all 2025 so the auroras will be the crown jewels of our year. With more than 100 aurora companies driving thousands of tourists around Tromso, our island and our windows will take you in a completely different movie theater: darker, quiter, away from it all. While everyone has to ride far to see the green lady, here you can choose to relax on a chaise longue and just look out of the window.
Aurora season openings: September 30 2025 onwards until April 5 2026, from 1100 euros per 8 nights/7 days
SPRING
Ski and Sail
2025 will be our fourth skisailing season and Nordlight has hosted skiers from all over and together we have started to explore some of the possible routes and descents that the island has to offer. The traverse of Vanntindan, the couloirs above the frozen lake of Svartvann and the views from the big ridge of Saudalsfjellet proved particularly spectacular. As a whole, the island alone offers plenty to enjoy for days on end because Nordlight is the only base on site. But above all, we enjoyed the quality of the snow and the pleasure of setting off in the morning with the certainty of not finding anyone in our valleys.
Ski sailing season openings: February 2025 onwards until May 5, from 1100 euros per 8 nights/ 7 days

SUMMER
Family summer holidays
Discover the charm of an island larger than Elba but without tourists, rich in hiking trails, reindeer, eagle mountains, beaches and lakes. Relax at our base with a 15-hectare private park, a paradise for children and teenagers. Discover our library and enjoy the midnight sun, perhaps while playing golf on our 9-hole arctic course.
Sailing expeditions
With our Cadeau we travel to the islands on the border between the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans, the wildest part of Norway, beaches, mountains and islands that few people know exist. With this formula we sleep at Nordlight at the beginning and end of the cruise
Sail and Hike
Fascinating combination of seas and mountains to enjoy the best of both worlds, undemanding sailings to otherwise inaccessible fjords and islands where you can enjoy breathtaking views and wilderness. Discover Rebbenes, Loppa, Arnoya, the Bergsfjord and other undiscovered pearls where you can start walking on white sand to reach your own private ocean terrace. An ideal formula for those who want to enjoy the boat but also the comforts of home.
Summer season details: cruises and land/sea adventures between July 15 and September 5, from 1100 euros per 8 nights/ 7 days
AUTUMN
Lights, whales and sails
October and November are our favourite months, when we can alternate between short sailing expeditions in search of orcas and whales in the surreal northern autumn light, and long evenings spent marvelling at the aurora show from our lounge windows, open to the Arctic ocean.
From early September until early April, more or less day depending on latitude, the northern lights illuminate the skies, lands and seas of northern Scandinavia. They dance with clear skies, they prefer light northerly winds, which are colder and drier, they hate cities and their lights, they dazzle over the sea that loves to reflect them. They dance in harmony with the vagaries of our sun and its cycles, so they are relatively predictable and performances can repeat several nights in a row, as well as rest for several days. The dance can last a few minutes as well as several hours, it can begin at dusk as well as late at night, there seem to be no rules, they are not the geyser of Yellowstone but a susceptible, whimsical and superb dancing body. The robes can be barely moving as they swirl at unimaginable speeds. Usually green, they sometimes get excited and glow with golden and even lilac highlights.
But most of all, they love to dance at the end of the world, so push yourself away from roads, countries, men, and into the most deserted and coldest islands and plateaus you will find, push yourself to the shores of the Arctic Ocean, find a big window or light a big fire, and let yourself be bewitched…
Few corners of Norway are better situated than Nordlight to admire this wonderful spectacle in peace, silence and darkness. Vannoya is one of the islands furthest into the ocean, so far from the fjords that have a bad habit of drawing in clouds. Our huge windows to the ocean also allow our guests to enjoy the spectacle from the warmth of the living room or even from the room.
The orcas seem to love the same light, that soft indigo that falls in mid-October and stays until dark. They descend between Vannoya and Arnoya, sometimes down to the beach, and into the Kvaenangen fjord, where we join them by boat. The first sightings are at the end of October.
Season openings: October 10, 2025 to November 30 2025, from 1100 euros per 8 nights/ 7 days
WINTER
Polar night at Nordlight
The sun stops peeking over the horizon around 20 November, but continues to light up the sky with colours painted by the clouds and giving a minimum of four hours of magical light, hours that we allocate as often as possible to exploring the island, its mountains and beaches, and often sailing to Fugloya and nearby Arnoya. Sailing and walking occupy the main part of the day, while waiting for the northern lights enriches the long evenings. The afternoons are dedicated to reading, playing, writing, discovering the value of time, relaxation and silence. Sometimes the moon offers the sight of spectacular gales and our windows rarely fail to amaze. We learn to devote the right amount of time to stillness and inactivity, to being who we are and not what we do.
Men of today are more than adept at organising everything, but they are no longer up to the task of gathering for the Night. In ‘movement’ we seem to be something and do something – but where there is stillness and inactivity, we no longer know how to make anything of ourselves. Through the prevailing industriousness and its successes and achievements we are radically sidetracked in our quest – we mistakenly assume that the essential must be built, and we forget that it only grows if we live completely, i.e. in the presence of Night and Evil – according to our heart.
